CARD OF THE WEEK: March 20-26, 2023

Five of Cups

Modern Witch Tarot

by Lisa Sterle

March 20-26, 2023:  This traditionally gloomy card reminds me of my city and one of my riverscapes. It also reminds me of how I've often taken my sorrows to the riverside and sat there feeling increasingly nourished and healed.

The black-clad figure in this card is doing the same, perhaps mourning whatever those three toppled goblets represented to her life. The two standing upright just behind her, though, speak to holding something untouched in reserve for the future.

Or they could mean a resource or blessing she's not even aware of now which she could discover at that point in time when she turns away from her grieving. They suggest "This too shall pass," and there's still something to which you can look forward.

CARD OF THE WEEK: March 13-19, 2023

Page of Cups

Oriens Animal Tarot

by Ambi Sun

March 13-19, 2023: There are times to boldly strike out on your own and other times to stick together. With this Page of Cups, Ambi Sun shows a school of sardines in perfect, instinctual coordination. They make a sinuous swirl in the water near a beautiful golden goblet. Rather than showing us a single figure for this court card, we've given a group, and that can suggest that its numerous individuals contribute build the dynamism of the whole, revving up one another in their journey through the sea.

Recognize when it's useful--or imperative--to move in this way, especially, though not exclusively, if you're young, inexperienced, and untried. Tarot's Pages have much to learn, with fresh energy and heart for the task of steadily developing themselves or something of importance.

This week, you might make plans to gather with peers or potential collaborators and see what newly emerges or gets a good boost forward.

CARD OF THE WEEK: March 6-10, 2023

 The Tower

Morgan-Greer Tarot

by Lloyd Morgan with art by Bill Greer

March 6-10, 2023: Here's The Tower again. (See a previous visit to The Tower, via Neo Tarot, back in January.) Now, in Bill Greer's art for Morgan-Greer Tarot, the archetypal Tower is besieged by air and sea. You can see three of the four great elements at work here--a rage of Fire, Water, and Air. The Tower itself represents the element of Earth, and that suggests for us that the things we've come to consider normal, stable, and reliable are undergoing radical changes.

Before you freak out about this, pause, take a breath or two, and think about what rightly requires shifts and revisions. The vibe of the times offers momentum for shaking things up, making corrections, sweeping with new brooms. Blockages can be removed. New paths open. Clarity emerges.

It can seem unnerving when big changes happen in a way that seems out of our hands. The very idea of individual control in life gets upended. But you can learn to resist the anxious urge to seize the steering wheel and instead watch the rise of positive developments and solutions you did not anticipate. These changes have their own internal logic, their own rightness.

Rather than fear this time, ask how you can partner with and serve this energy. Sometimes this means doing something you never imagined doing despite any hesitation. Sometimes this means releasing the pressure you put on yourself and/or those around you.

ONE WORD/THREE CARDS: March 4-5, 2023

Daughter of Swords
The Wild Unknown Tarot
by Kim Krans

Below:
Daughter of Wands
and
Father of Cups

March 4-5, 2023:

One Word/Three Cards

Our word for this weekend is KINSHIP, and our interesting draw of cards might represent a family of choice rather than one of blood lineage. Swords (Air), Wands (Fire), and Cups (Water) are here--two Court cards identified as daughters and one dad. Only the element of Earth goes missing from this array.

Do they represent external beings--even folks you might know in real life? Or are they parts of your inner self? The lack of Earth here suggests that we're dealing with the inner world, not the thing-ey world of tangible manifestation and embodiment. That does not mean, of course, that these internal energies or personalities have no effect in and on the outer world. Quite the contrary.

Two bright and high-spirited "daughters" sit in this arrangement with a sensitive but protective "father." (I say "protective" because swans are notoriously fierce.) These acquired family members come from here, there, and everywhere--a vision of diversity drawn together for some reason, and it will be your quest, this weekend, to discover why.

What do they contribute to one another? How do they challenge and/or support one another--or how might they?

Enjoy, and please feel free to suggest single keywords for future One Word/Three Cards posts!
