CARD OF THE WEEK: April 25-29, 2022

Bear

Gilded Reverie Lenormand Expanded Edition

by Ciro Marchetti

April 25-29, 2022: Here's a majestic Lenormand Bear from Ciro Marchetti! This is Lenormand's "Mom" card. Mother Bear is here for you!

Honor--and pay attention to--your solemn dignity and inner authority this week. Something of the weekend's concerns around the personal qualities it takes to survive and thrive in a changing environment carries over into this week.

Marchetti makes this specifically a polar bear. We've long known how polar bears are threatened by this planet's damaged climate and environment. Can you sit with the energy of this Bear and feel its fierce determination for life?

Find a way to imagine yourself into Bear. It is a powerful model, also a protective spirit (Mama Bear) as well as a symbol of abundance (motherly care and generosity). Draw Bear's energy around you and see the results manifest as you go through the events and encounters of your week.

Do you have a particular Tarot or other oracle card that you'd like to me explore and write about in the hummingwitch way?

Just email a good, clear jpg photo of your card to hummingwitch@gmail.com, and I'll incorporate its message, one way or another, into one of these posts. Let me know if you'd prefer your submission to be anonymous.

Thanks!

CARD OF THE DAY: March 28, 2022

Garden

Golden Thread Lenormand

by Tina Gong

March 28, 2022: When I first saw the gold-on-black images from artist Tina Gong's Golden Thread Lenormand, I knew I had to have it. These cards are--trust me--both minimalist and glamorous. I regret that my iPhone shots can't do their allure justice, and that's why they've not turned up on hummingwitch until just now.

I also regret the accidental scratch mark across the bench on Gong's Garden card which, for some annoying reason, looks far worse in this photo than it does on the card itself where you can barely see it. But you can look up images from this deck elsewhere online and discover how truly beautiful it is.

You might not notice anyone walking around Gong's garden, but allow yourself to imagine a large, sunny, airy, gracious, welcoming space. This space is open to the public, a gathering place for community and exchange. It represents things that are above board, out there for all, and communal.

With this as your Card of the Day, think about activities, projects, communication, or engagements that are public-facing or about your role in a wider sphere of interchange, collaboration, and influence.

The bench is a particularly attractive touch (if you ignore my unfortunate scratch). Think about who, living or in Spirit, you might like to invite to that bench for a chat. If you can't arrange this literally, then imagine that conversation and see what comes of it.

CARD OF THE DAY: March 2, 2022

Owls

Gilded Reverie Lenormand Expanded Edition

by Ciro Marchetti

March 2, 2022: With his added Owls card, Ciro Marchetti expands the range of options that a traditional Lenormand oracle deck can offer. Where a Lenormand Birds card suggests mundane conversations and sometimes petty chatter, Marchetti's owls signify deeper communication in which matters of higher import and great wisdom can be transmitted from person to person or Spirit to mind.

That makes today an excellent time to make space for contemplation and meditation. Stay alert for signs and synchronicities that could bring meaningful messages. Perhaps you will recognize the answer to a question or a solution to a major problem that you've been carrying close to your heart.

Certainly, it can be a good day for a deep heart-to-heart talk with someone important to you.

At the very least, grab some private time, and give yourself a reading. You owe this to yourself!

Shopping for your deck!

The Fool

from Etruscan Tarot

by Riccardo Minetti with art by Silvana Alasia

It's certainly way too late to ship out a Christmas present, but you can still pick out one for yourself! But where can you find just the right Tarot deck, Tarot guide book, or Tarot bag to please you?

Pinterest is great for viewing a wide range of Tarot designs and beginning to get a sense of what styles of imagery might work well for your practice.

Check out Etsy, too, for more ideas and vendors.

You'll find a great archive of deck reviews (with card images) on the great Aeclectic Tarot site-- including several by yours truly from as much as 15 years ago!

Here's one of mine on the very unusual 2013 Oracle deck--for one thing, I said it was "not for people who prefer their decks gentle and sweet"--and another on Dorothy Krause's Millennium Tarot (aka Dorothy Krause's Tarot).

Two good New York City bookstores devoted to spiritual/metaphysical books and supplies, like Tarot, are:

Quest Bookshop

240 East 53rd Street, New York, NY 10022 (212-758-5521)

Aum Shanti Bookshop

230 E 14th St, New York, NY 10003 (212-260-2866)

Oddly enough, I've never visited the little Brooklyn witch shop Catland, but I'm guessing it's cool!

Catland

987 Flushing Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11206 (718- 418-9393)
