Six of Swords
Morgan-Greer Tarot
by Lloyd Morgan with art by Bill Greer
July 25-29, 2022: The quiet, somber Six of Swords traditionally depicts a journey over water and, in Bill Greer's art for Morgan-Greer Tarot, there's no sure, welcoming harbor in sight. Ahead? Just the seemingly endless stretch of flowing water and a hazy landscape.
One can imagine the Six of Swords telling of exile for the cloaked figure huddled behind a bunch of swords rising from the bottom of the rowboat. The boat moves from some unidentified past to some unidentified future. Readers often speak of this as a journey into the unknown, one requiring profound faith and a willingness to let go of both the past and the future.
A reversed Six of Swords could indicate that a possible journey has not yet begun, or that reluctance and resistance holds up its start, or that--in an even more negative turn--confusion dominates any possible and positive motion.
Even right-side up, this does not look like a pleasure trip. However, make the most of it by appreciating that, for once, you do not have to steer. You are not on your own. You do not have to know the way. You can take time to release your past efforts and all that you've been holding in your body and on your heart.
It's a good week to pay attention to your breathing, release into a feeling of centeredness, and observe what you can of what's flowing around and within you.
