CARD OF THE WEEKEND: December 17-18, 2022

The Wheel of Fortune

Celestial Tarot

December 17-18, 2022: Working with the Celestial Tarot deck, you might want to get out a magnifying glass to examine all of the tiny, often faint details in Kay Steventon's paintings. I consider these card images a little too busy, too stuffed for my taste, though you might find all of this helpful according to your own lights. I'll admit this deck, a copy provided for review, has lived in my collection for many years, unused in consultations.

However, today, I'll share its Wheel of Fortune, which authors Steventon and Brian Clark associate with the god and planet Jupiter. Jupiter brings good fortune, abundance, and success. It is all about largeness, fullness, and at times, on the downside, excess and self-indulgence.

Tarot's Wheel of Fortune can signal things brought full circle (say, by way of karma), and counsels that fortune can be a quite changeable matter. As the authors remind us, we need a humble human attitude towards fortune, for while there is much we can work for and activate on our own, we're still subject to the condition and influence of forces larger than ourselves.

How does your story situate itself within a larger story? How are you, for better or for worse, affected by contexts and systems outside of yourself?

Steventon's astrological wheel could be your horoscope. Gaze upon it and see what it tells you of the balance of Circumstance and Will in your journey. How does it speak to you of clarity, determination, ingenuity, and creativity in your personal magic(k)? How do your intentions connect to conditions in your world? If change, at this time, is a good, needed thing, how can you work with powerful forces beyond you to move that wheel?
