Jack of Spades
February 21, 2022: Surprise! I will be throwing traditional playing cards into the mix, now and again. That's for my own practice and experimentation, as I have not often used regular playing cards in divination.
Playing card decks are quite inexpensive and easy to find. You probably have a deck or two laying around your home. So, some of you who have not yet delved into the complex world of Tarot might enjoy giving playing cards a whirl for readings and might even find they suit you better--that is, if you don't miss Tarot's spectacular Major Arcana.
I have just discovered and enjoy Welsh writer Bev G's comprehensive guides on using playing cards as divination tools, particularly this page and this page on Exemplore. I will be spending some time in future weeks exploring her material and developing my own intuitive sense of things, as you might imagine. As I do, I might dip into this, now and again, for our explorations here on hummingwitch.
Today's Card of the Day is the Jack (aka Knave) of Spades!
This Jack is related to Tarot's Swords suit (Spades/Swords) but is not as socially-elevated a figure as a courtly Knight, nor is he a Tarot Page-like ingenu/e or student. As I work with playing cards, I'm going to think of my Jacks as smart, capable folks with everyday jobs and missions, objectives and tasks. I do not choose to think of them as servants of playing-card royalty or, in the sense of the alternate word for them--knaves--rogues and scoundrels.
So, what is our Jack of Spades doing here today?
Gazing foward and backward, inward and outward, up and down, this Jack has a sharp (and sometimes withering) 360-degree view of many things and can be relied upon to keep a watch on and analyze anything of interest to you. Our Jack is super-smart and communicative but never in a high-and-mighty way. You do have to know that, if necessary, he will read a bitch to filth!
If you have to make a decision today, this Jack will help you figure out all the angles. Need to pull together or edit some writing or speak your mind, clearly and effectively, in a debate or argument? Call upon your sidekick Jack. And, in any instance, this one will never let you get the wool pulled over your eyes.
Okay, see how much fun this can be?
