CARD OF THE DAY: February 23, 2022

 Ten of Clubs

February 23, 2022: If we were looking at an equivalent Tarot card right now, it would be the Ten of Wands, familiar to many of you. The classic image shows a single person carrying away a heavy load of wands. Typical code words for that card would be: burden, responsibilities, loaded plate, I have absolutely no bandwidth for more, and so forth.

A regular playing card deck seemingly gives us no such storytelling visuals to help with interpretation. At the same time, it also does not tie the reader to Rider-Waite tradition aside from the correlation of Clubs with Wands.

You can check up on what other playing card readers have hit upon. Or--and this is the fun part--you can figure things out for yourself. What might be useful to you?

I think it's a great idea to have a designated Tarot card to help you see where you might be carrying heavy things--physical, psychological, emotional, you name it--that you should either quickly find a place to set down or find someone else who really, really, really ought to bear them rather than you or bear them with you. So, I might choose to hold onto that useful way of looking at Ten of Clubs.

I'm way visually-oriented with divination cards, though. I can't help but notice a few things about the pattern of the clubs on the Ten.

First, I saw the neat inner circle of six clubs--an upper semicircle facing and mirroring a lower semicircle. I thought of a group circle dance or a sacred ritual circle. Next, I noticed the four watchtower clubs on the outside of that circle. See the four points?

In Tarot, a quartet of anything bears importance, since Tarot emphasizes four magickal tools/elements--Swords/Air; Cups/Water; Wands/Fire; Pentacles/Earth. In ritual magick, the spirits of these Four Corners are called forth. Accordingly, I could think of the Ten of Clubs as symbolizing an energetic gathering, then, one that could raise some of the highest energies.

As related to Tarot's Wands and to the energy level of  the number 10 in Tarot, the Ten of Clubs can suggest a 10-alarm fire's worth of energy, a pretty big deal magick-wise.

The cards are yours! You get to say what does and does not work in your practice of divination.

Let me know what you think about when you contemplate the Ten of Clubs!
