February 12-13, 2022: In A. A. Atanassov's Nine of Wands (Golden Botticelli Tarot), a queenly pea hen perches atop the central wand of a barrier-like arrangement of wands, Tarot's fire energy implements. A rider has dismounted his white steed, waiting, ready for something that might approach from the left (the past). The position of the hand on his waist further shows that he and the horse are at rest, not walking forward. With the nine wands to his right, he stands guard.
Protection is one of many symbolic meanings associated with pea fowl (peacocks, male; pea hen, such as we have here, female) across different cultural traditions.
