CARD OF THE DAY: February 25, 2022

 The Chariot

The Wild Unknown Tarot by Kim Krans

and Morgan-Greer Tarot by Lloyd Morgan with art by Bill Greer

February 25, 2022: Today's Chariot, from Kim Krans' The Wild Unknown Tarot, looks a little odd, at first, if you're used to a Rider-Waite-style deck like the Morgan-Greer. My goodness, where's our charioteer? Where's his chariot? And where's that other horse?

Well, I see the charioteer as that solar disk radiating down upon the single horse, and that horse serves as a fine symbol of channeled, focused will. The resolve and tight integration represented by this Major Arcana archetype have already been achieved. The resulting motion forward can be witnessed in the horse's breeze-swept mane. You can feel the energy inside this Tarot image, right?

The duality usually represented by the Rider-Waite horses of distinct colors--and harnessed by the charioteer--can be easily discerned here in the presence of the sun overhead and the crescent moon placed on the horse's forehead. The charioteer's crown of pentacles has been replaced by the horse's single pentacle pendant. And, to make the meaning even sharper, do check out Krans' perfect alignment of sun, crescent moon, long horse head, and pentacle.

The Chariot still tells us to pull ourselves together, keep our eyes on the prize, and get the job done. In Krans' conception of it, there can be no doubt about its meaning and inspiration.
